Departments and groups
How a department differs from a group, and how groups make assigning learning easy.
Department
A department is where a person sits in the organization: “Sales”, “Finance”. Each person has one department. Departments are used in report filters and in dynamic group rules.
Group
A group brings people together for a purpose: “September joiners”, “B2B team”, “Kyiv office”. A person can be in many groups.
The main reason for groups is assigning learning. Assign a course or a learning path to a group once, and everyone who joins the group later gets it automatically. Anyone who leaves loses access, unless they have it some other way.
Regular and dynamic groups
- Regular group: you add people by hand.
- Dynamic group: you describe a rule and the system keeps the group up to date.
